STEP 4: Evaluate your data

In Step 4, you’ll evaluate your data by using a decision tree. The decision is based on a series of YES/NO questions and will categorize your occupation in one of the following three ways.

thumbs down.png  Thumbs Down - the occupation is probably not a good fit for your program.

  time out.pngTime Out - the occupation could work for your program, but there are some factors you need to figure out before you develop it for your portfolio.

  thumbs up.pngThumbs Up - the occupation is a good fit for your program and should be developed.

The decision tree has one main branch, which leads into a branch for:

  • Static jobs (don’t typically lead to careers, these jobs have lower pay compared to other middle-skill roles, lower advancement, and high turnover);

  • Lifetime jobs (considered careers in and of themselves, these jobs pay well and offer long-term stability, but are also less likely to lead to higher-level positions); or

  • Springboard jobs (lead to careers, these jobs are more likely to lead to roles with higher wages and greater pay within the same field).
